Hedera helix, the common ivy, English ivy, European ivy, or just ivy, is a species of flowering plant of the ivy genus in the family Araliaceae, native to most of Europe and western Asia. A rampant, clinging evergreen vine, it is a familiar sight in gardens, waste spaces, and wild areas, where it grows on walls, fences, tree trunks, etc. across its native and introduced habitats. As a result of its hardy nature, and its tendency to grow readily without human assistance, ivy attained popularity as an ornamental plant, but escaped plants have become naturalised outside its native range and grow unchecked in myriad wild and cultivated areas.

Description
Light
Bright, indirect light is best- avoid sunny spots as this will burn your ivy. It can tolerate some shade indoors but ensure it’s not too dark!
Watering
Water once the top two inches of soil has dried out; ivy is not drought-tolerant but also does not like to sit in soggy soil. Make sure to water less frequently in a shady spot.
Temperature
Can stand temperatures from -5 to 30°C.
Humidity
Likes high humidity, but make sure the air around it circulates too. Misting or introducing a humidity tray will help, but if you’re misting make sure not to leave the leaves damp for too long, especially in shadier spots.
Feed
Feed every four waters in the growing season, and reduce to every six winter.
Height & Growth Rate
Hedera helix can be a particularly fast grower. Trails can grow 2-3 metres indoors. Cut back to maintain the desired length.
Toxicity
Considered toxic if eaten. Keep away from children and animals. Do not consume.
Origin
Hedera helix Pittsburgh is native to Central & Northern Europe.
