Tillandsia is a genus of around 650 species of evergreen, perennial flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae, native to the forests, mountains and deserts of the Neotropics, from northern Mexico and the southeastern United States to Mesoamerica and the Caribbean to central Argentina. Their leaves, more or less silvery in color, are covered with specialized cells (trichomes) capable of rapidly absorbing water that gathers on them.

Description
Light
As a general rule, keep your air plants out of direct sunlight. Remember, in the wild, many air plant species like to grow up in the sheltered, shady canopy of trees.
Watering
To water, place them in the sink or a small jar with enough water to submerge your plants. Let them soak for about half an hour, then give them a gentle shake or two to dislodge some water before turning them upside down on a towel to let them drain.
Temperature
Air plants love warm weather so it’s the other end of thermometer you need to watch. Protect your plants from anything colder than 45 degrees; they will die at those temperatures.
Humidity
Overall, they prefer humidity in the 50-70% range. So its not too far off from the average indoor humidity level, which often falls around 40-60%, but not enough for them to do well without supplemental water.
Feed
To fertilize air plants, use an air plant-specific fertilizer or a bromeliad fertilizer a few times a year.
Toxicity
The Tillandsia, aka air plants, are non-toxic and pet safe.
