Tradescantia Zebrina – Wandering Dude

Tradescantia zebrina, formerly known as Zebrina pendula, is a species of creeping plant in the Tradescantia genus. Common names include silver inch plant and wandering Jew. The latter name is controversial, and some now use the alternative wandering dude. The plant is popular in cultivation due to its fast growth and attractive foliage. It is used as a groundcover in warm winter climates, and as a houseplant elsewhere.
Description
Light
The plant thrives in bright to medium light conditions. To maintain the most striking contrast of vivid colours give it bright diffused light.
Watering
Water well during the growing season and allow to dry-out between waterings. If the plant sits in wet soil for long periods it will cause root rot.
Temperature
Tradescantia zebrina is happy in normal household temperatures: anywhere from 10°C to 24°C. Be aware however, that in cold conditions, the plant will grow much slower.
Humidity
The Tradescantia zebrina does prefer increased levels of humidity but will tolerate normal conditions. For an added boost, mist regularly, or relocate to a steamier room such as the kitchen or bathroom.
Feed
Apply a weak general purpose fertiliser to the pot of your zebrina during the summer months.
Height & Growth Rate
The Inch Plant is fast-growing and typically develops long trails capable of being trained to climb. These can be cut back to maintain desired length and look.
Toxicity
The Inch Plant is mildly toxic to pets. Keep away from animals.

Tradescantia zebrina is native to Mexico and Central America.
